Notes for: Nathan SHEPPARD

Nathan died in Rock Island Co., Illinois where he had moved his
family in 1854. He had done considerable work as a Surveyor for the
U.S. Land Office, as early as 1833, and had already made 16 trips from
Belmont Co., Ohio prior to March 20, 1854, when he moved his family to
Rock Island Co., Illinois. Several others accompanied him, leaving
from Wheeling, West Virginia by boat down the Ohio River. Another
large group left at the same time by wagon train. A part of Nathan's
job was to settle property-line disputes, etc.
In Rock Island Co., Illinois Nathan bought 710 acres in Coe and
Canoe Creek Townships but lived n Section 36, Coe Twp. He was buried
on his premises in a private (the Walker) Cemetery in Section 36 Coe
Township.
