LESTER BARCLAY EVANS
Obituary in Council Grove Newspaper
Lester B. Evans, who had been closely identified with progress in the Wilsey schools as a board member for many years, passed away about 11:30 o'clock Saturday morning, August 13, 1960, at the Morris County Hospital, where he had been admitted earlier in the day. He was 64 years old. Mr. Evans was born near Wilsey on March 20, 1896. He was married in Council Grove to Mary Ruth McIntosh on February 16, 1915. He was a son of the late B. F. and Sarah E. Evans. Mr. Evans was a carpenter by trade and was a member of the Wilsey Methodist Church and the Odd Fellows Lodge. He had lived in the Wilsey area all of his life and had served more than 30 years as a school board member there. Fifteen of those years were on the Wilsey Rural High School Board.
Surviving him are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Don Lee of Council Grove, Mrs. Ralph Campbell of Hugoton, and Mrs. Robert Feather of Hatboro, Pa; three sons, Eldon Evans of Wichita, Wayne Evans of Wilsey, and Loren Evans of Topeka; a sister, Mrs. Medora Coffin of Manhattan; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 16, in the Kendall Funeral Chapel and the Wilsey Cemetery with the Rev. Frank Parker in charge.
