Notes for: Nathan DURKEE
Served in the Washington County Militia as a Private in the Rev War as a scout and at the Battle of Saratoga. Briefly held as a POW by the British but escaped under musket fire along with fellow prisoners when the British had them wash in the river, they stole boats and fled.
Rose through the ranks up to Vice Major and then NY switched from the Dutch Militia system and he became a 2nd Major of the Washington County Militia. Resigned in 1810
Served in the War of 1812 for a brief time in Colonel James Green's 118th Regiment out of Washington County, New York.
A Founder of the Public Library in Washington County, NY, Signed the Charter.
