Notes for: Patrick MALLORY
He was a native of New York he first settled at Lamotte, in Jackson County, Iowa from thence he came to Delaware County, Iowa, all of which time he was engaged as a preacher of the gospel as well as industriously cultivating a farm; except for the last three years he gave up the latter on account of failing health. He was religiously what is call and known of the Christian persuasion, a denomination which claims to take the Old and New Testament as their only rule and guide, discarding all differences of opinion as to what them deem non-essentials as the different modes of water baptism; the state of the dead between the death of the body and the general resurrection or coming of Christ, &c. Elder Mallory, it seems, was a self-made man, possessing a mind ever active, with a good persuasive expression, as well as a considerable degree of natural originality, he became a very useful and instructive preacher, which has occupied a good share of his time for the last 20 years. He was the first and older preacher of his persuasion in northern Iowa, if not in the State. Throughout his whole course as a Christian and preacher there remains not a blot or stain, and though a republican in politics, he has never been guilty of desecrating the Sabbath and pulpit by political harangues; but on the contrary always openly declared against it as impious. Where is there another of any persuasion among the protestant clergy that can say as much? Respected and beloved by all who knew him as a Christian, friend and neighbor, while living, though he is now gone from among us; yet his influence will live even to the benefit of many generations yet unborn.
