Notes for: Gaston Hillary WILDER
In addition to his farm and legal practice, Gaston H. Wilder served about 8 years in the NC Legislature, was President of the Raleigh and Gaston Railroad; and served on the committee to plan the new State capitol building. He was a member of the NC Militia, and when America went to war against Mexico in 1845, he served as a Major with the NC Regiment, and was Paymaster of the unit. After having spent some years in the service of his country in the Mexican war, was ranked as Major in the U. S. Army, but was in the Paymaster's department of General Zachary Taylor's line. After the war he was stationed for a time in New York and Washington DC.
