Notes for: Sarah Elizabeth HINTON

Sarah was about 5 years old when her family, including her paternal grandfather and uncles, removed to Greene County, AL where they established a plantation. Sadly, her entire family would perish there. Her brother died in Feb 1838, followed by her father in March 1838, and then her mother in August of 1839. Orphaned at age 8, it is believed she was raised by her paternal grandfather until she eventually return to North Carolina after marrying.

She was 19 years old in 1850 when she married her distant cousin, 36-year old Gaston H. Wilder of Wake County, NC. Gaston & Sarah would become parents to 8 known surviving children, two of whom became doctors
