He fought at Agincourt
In 1449 his son Henry with his family were taken by the Breton pirate Colyn Dolphin as they crossed the Bristol Chancel from Somerset. They were held at Saint-Malo for a ransom of 1000 marks. Edward was forced to sell manors in Oxfordshire and southeast Wales, along with large quantities of wood, to raise the sum and free the captives in 1451
