Notes for: Moses LITTLE, Sr

Mr Little lived upon the homestead at Newbury. He served in King Philip's War and was, it was said, the town collector. Two of his account books were recently in existence. At his death he was the executor of the estate of Joseph Morin, and perhaps settled other estates.
He died of small-pox, and according to the practices of that time, was kept during his illness in a room so heated that ones hand could not rest on the walls without discomfort. It is the tradition that he caught the disease while passing a house where infected clothing was exposed from the windows, and that his physician, while in a state of intoxication, administered a prescription which hastened, if it did not cause, his death. He died 8 March 1691 was was buried in the vicinity of his home. His estate was appraised at £1065.7.
