Notes for: Charles Anderson HINTON
Mr. Hinton was born in Humble, Texas on July 1, 1923 to W.B. Hinton and Clara Griffin Hinton. Mr. Hinton graduated from Lockhart High School in Lockhart, Texas and enrolled in Texas A&M College as a member of the Class of '44. During World War II, Andy was commissioned as a lieutenant and sent to the Pacific theater. While serving his country bravely, Lt. Hinton was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor.
After the war, Mr. Hinton returned to Texas A&M where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Geological Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering.
Mr. Hinton married Margaret Elizabeth Ross on April 14, 1951 in Lockhart, Texas. Andy and Margaret soon moved to Mt. Pleasant to make their home.
Mr. Hinton joined his father and worked his entire career in the oil and gas drilling and production business and in later years ran the family cattle business. He served on the Board of Directors of the International Association of Drilling Contractors for many years. He was also a member of American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the Independent Petroleum Association of America and the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association.
Mr. Hinton was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church since 1951 and served in many capacities including 1987 Building Fund Chairman. Mr. Hinton was a lifetime member of ire Twenty-Fifth infantry Division Association, served as Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Association of Former Students at Texas A&M University, served on the Board of Directors of the Aggie Club at Texas A&M, served as a member of the Board of Education for Mount Pleasant Public Schools, served on the Board of Managers of Titus Regional Medical Center for 11 years including 10 years as Chairman, was a long time member of the Dallas Petroleum Club, and served as the President of Mount Pleasant Country Club.
He and his wife Margaret were founding members of the President's Endowed Scholars at Texas A&M University and are Eppright Distinguished Donors for the 12th Man Foundation of Texas A&M University.
Mr. Hinton's most cherished business relationship outside of the family business was his service of nearly 47 years on the Board of Directors of Guaranty Bond Bank. At the time of his death, Mr. Hinton was the longest serving director of the current board members. In 2001, Mr. Hinton was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Mount Pleasant Titus County Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Hinton was a Mason and a Shriner and very much enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing and traveling.
