George Washington Marsh
Obit of George Washington Marsh, who died Feb 10, 1904. at age 90 years, 4months and 21days. Mr Marsh was a native of Herkimer Co., N.Y. where he was born, September 30, 1813, and remained in that state until he was 26 years of age, when he removed to Ohio. Coming west in 1838 (?) Mr. Marsh located at Beaver Dam, Wi. He established himself in the carriage making and blacksmithing business, which he carried on until 1857, when he went on a farm. Selling out his holding in Dodge Co., he came to Sturgeon Bay, Wi in the fall of 1864, and soon afterward purchased the "Middle Mill", an establishment that had been idle ever since the disastrous panic of 37. This property was the year following sold to Wm. A. Ives. Mr Marsh was thrice married, the first timee to Miss Mary C. Flint, who died in Beaver Dam, Wi. in 1856, and two years after to Mrs Catherine N. Hutchinson, who died in this city Sept. 24, 1894 (?). The last marriage was to Mrs S.N. Bacon, who survives. Among the survivors of the first marriage are George A. and Mrs. Frank Ives of this city. There were no children by the 2nd marriage, although Mrs. Hutchinson at the time of her marriage was a widow, and the mother of quite a family. These were Mrs. H.W. Wead, Carl and Dr. Hutchinson, well known to the old residents of the town. The first two are located at Omaha, Ne. and the latter at Marinette. The funeral took place from the late home of the deceased, Thursday, p.m., and the remains interred at Bayside, Wi. Mr Marsh was always regarded as an honest and upright man, who dealt justly with his neighbors and friends.
