Notes for: William DURKEE
William Durkee/Durgy, was a young Irish Catholic nobleman captured by the British under the devastation of Cromwell campaign and sold into slavery in Barbados. He ended up an indentured servant to Robert Cross of Ipswich, Massachusetts, where he and the master's youngest daughter conceived a child. The couple were married days before the child (John) was born.
William never did join the Puritan Church, and thus his family lived in poverty.
