Notes for: Nathan Arnett MCFADDEN

Nathan Arnett McFadin was born and raised in Montgomery Co., Tennessee. Sometime after 1820 he resided in Schuyler Co., Illinois, as did his brother John for awhile. He married there and was on the 1830 Census.

In 1831, along with his father-in-law Colonel Jesse Bartlett, he joined Stephen F. Austin's Colony in the Washington District of Texas & Couhilla, Mexico. He was granted a League of land (4,428 acres) by the Mexican government on 20 Oct 1832. On 29 Jul 1838 he sold the land to Robert D. and Charles F. Flack for $2,400.

Nathan A. served in the Texas Revolution from 1 MAR until 1 JUN 1836 and for his service received Bounty Warrant 4323 for 320 acres of land on 20 SEP 1838. He assigned/sold the rights to H.M. Lewis and John James. In MAY 1838, the government of the Republic of Texas granted him one Labor of land (177 acres) as a "resident citizen of Texas at the date of the Declaration of Independence."

Beginning in 1841, Nathan Arnett McFadin served a term as Justice of the Peace in Washington County.

On the 1850 Census, he is shown in Washington Co., Texas, with a wife and six children (eldest daughter married and one deceased). He is indicatedas a Farmer with property worth $6,000. The 1860 Census finds him with $2,500 in land and $600 in other property. [email David McFadden11/27/00]]
