Notes for: Elias McFADDEN Sr.

ELIAS McFADDIN, fifth son of John Stephen McFaddin, exact date of birth unknown, but he married Mary Heeslip of Rutherford County, North Carolina before 1775. In 1780 Elias and Mary, with a group of settlers going out to East Tennessee to take their land, were attacked by Indians on May 2,1780 at Stoney Fort, Tennessee, called Stoney River Massacre. Elias was killed May 2, 1780. Mary escaped to return to her home in North Carolina. She then married David Dickey. David Dickey, legal guardian of Andrew McFaddin, son of Elias and Mary McFaddin. This child, Andrew, was known as Twiddlededum Andrew, and when he received his inheritance, returned to Kentucky after 1801, and went to Indiana with uncles William and Andrew. He was a noted hunter and knew the Boone family. Happy and always sang the song "Twiddlededum" thus his nickname. He married Nancy, maiden name unknown, and died near 100 years of age in Farmersville, Posey County, Indiana. (Marie Whitworth and Vida Louise Morris)
