Notes for: Samuel Monroe McFADDEN Sr.

He served as a Captain in the Confederate Army. He was in S. W. Webb's Company [1st Texas Partisan Rangers], Lanes Regiment. He enlisted in the fall of 1863 and served until the end of the Civil War. Source of this is application by Eliza for a Confederate Pension, 26 Jul 1899. Reproduced from the holdings of the Texas State Archives. In Panola County History, published in 1969, descendants of Samuel M. and Eliza state that Samuel M. came to Panola County in about 1852 riding a very fine saddle horse. This story does certainly coincide with the fact that Wade H. is the father of Samuel -- Wade's fine saddle horses. (Marie Whitworth and Vida Louise Morris)
