Notes for: Charles BODKIN
There is much speculation on how and why Charles left the family group in VA. Gerald Botkin said that Charles either died early or moved away and he could be any of three: in Hampshire Co. VA, Hardy Co. WV or KY where a Charles Botkin was granted 100 acres for three years service for VA.
Charles first appears on record when he receives a 115 acre land patent on the Bullpasture River in 1754.
Charles enlisted in the 13th VA Regiment, Main Army, Continental Line 3 Jan 1777 and was discharged from the 9th VA Regiment 10 Sept 1780. He was issued bounty land warrant #2834 for his three years Army service.
Charles was living in Hampshire County, VA close to his brother Richard in 1782 and 1784.
Charles was living in Augusta County, VA close to his brothers Hugh, John and James in 1787 and 1788.
15 April 1789 Charles and Jamima Botkin sell 140 acres to Alex McQuain: Source: Toothman: Deed Book Records of Pendleton Co. WV: Charles and Jamima Botkin to Alex McQuain, 140 acres on branch of Blackthorn about mile NW of Hugh Bodkins land. Surveyed 17 June 1781.
Charles and Jemima sell their land to Alex McQuain who will marry Mary Bodkin daughter of Charles brother Hugh later the same year. This places Charles and Jemima in the exact location as Charles brothers Hugh, John and James and indicating that Charles is connected to this area and family.
Charles was living in Lost Creek, Harrison County, VA after 1790
Charles moved to OH with a Davisson family, to Darke Co. in 1803 settling in Champaign/Clark County by 1808.
Charles moves to Shelby County, OH in 1817 and died there in 1820.
