Notes for: John McDOWELL Sr.

He served during the Indian Dunmore's War. Also, he served as a Captain during the Revolutionary War. He was with General Washington at the crossing of the Delaware River and at Valley Forge. He was wounded at Brandywine and witnessed the surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown. He was a member of the Society of Cincinnati. He moved his family to Lexington, Fayette Co., Kentucky in 1784. He served during the War of 1812. He served seven (7) terms in the Kentucky State Legislature.
