Hi David!
Do you know the parentage of Mary Jane Tarleton (wife of John Moseley?) When 'my' Rebecca Tarlton married Jesse Cravens in Ohio Co,KY, John Moseley was her bondsmen. I had no idea what significance that had for me (I don't know who Rebecca's parents were) till I saw your webpage here:
http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=mosel ey&id=I2973
I am going to try to download your gedcom file, but any hints you can give me would be appreciated. BTW, Rebecca's husband and daughter both stated that Rebecca "was the granddaughter of the dreaded old "Tory" "General Tarlton". I know Benastre had no children, but ... oh well ... always questions LOL! .... Look forward to hearing from you. Nanc

HELLO COUSINS!
I am sending you all a COPY of a letter that I HOPE that I just sent to Catherine Theresa Lingenfelser. (I'm not sure I have the right email address) I HOPE that I have her correct email address. All of you receiving this have either helped me in my research or are researchers that I think I might connect with. I haven't sent this to either the Tarlton/Tarleton maillist yet, because I am still trying to sort out what I have. But if you want to answer me via the maillist .. that's up to you.
I am STRONGLY believe that Mary Jane Tarlton Moseley is a sister to Charles Tarlton, Robert Mason Tarlton, and Townsend Tarltonand to (MY) Rebecca Tarlton Cravens. According to Cathy that would mean that OUR line is:

1. George Tarlton b. abt 1640 in England
2. James Tarlton b. 1bt 1660 in Liverpool, Lancashire England
3. John Tarlton Sr. b. about 1710 -probably in Saint Mary'sCounty MD
4.John Tarlton Jr. b abt 1750 d. 1790-1802 in Mason KY and
Henrietta b abt 1755 and died aft 1802

Do any of you guys know this line? Do any of you have suggestions or ideas on any of this?
You can view Cathy's outline descendant chart here:

Or the index of Tarlton's in Cathy's database Here:

Okay. Here's the letter that I just sent her:
Hi Cathy!
After the research that I have been doing I feel like I almost know you, but you don't know me so I guess I'd better introduce myself. I don't usually go in to this much detail with every researcher I contact, but since I am CONVINCED that we are cousins .... I will TRY to be brief, though that's not one of my talents! LOL!

I have been working with genealogy since I was a kid, but just this spring I made a connection on something in my Cravens line that I have been working on for years. That's when I discovered my Tarlton connection. SO, I am an old genealogist (LOL!) quite new to Tarlton/Tarleton research.

Again, trying to be brief, I discovered that I am descended thru Rebecca Jane Tarlton who in 1802 married Jesse Cravens in Ohio Co, KY. (Your) John Moseley was her bondsman. The only other Tarleton's that I could find in the immediate area were Charles, Robert and Townsend, in the 1810 census. Charles married in 1801 and his bondsman was a Richard Moseley AND/OR YOUR John Moseley, depending on which record you believe. The census ages led me to believe that IF they were related to my Rebecca these 4 were probably all siblings. Due to the very few numbers of households in Ohio Co at the time, combined with the apparent youth of them all, I suspected that this was probably the case. SO where/who was Daddy and Mommy?

A few months ago I stumbled across the website of David Taylor and only THEN did I find out about "your" Mary Jane. The plot thickened ;?). It looked like the husband (John Mosely) of my Rebeccas older sister (Mary Jane) "gave her away" when Rebecca married. Hmmm. I didn't then catch that "Jennie" and Mary Jane were the same person.

Last week I stopped off in Ohio County enroute to my Mom's (I too now live in the south. I'm in your neighboring state of Alabama) I found a lot of little things at the library (the courhouse was a wash...) Then for my one big discovery ;?) I found mentions of Robert and Townsends apprencticship records. I will abstract them for you if you don't have them, but the gist is, that besides giving there ages, the dates, and who they were apprecticed too (Townsend -the baby- was apprenticed to your John Moseley btw) both apprecticeships mention that the boys are "infant sons of John Tarlton deceased". DADDY!

Since I've been back to my computer, I took this info and started searching again. I suddenly realized that I hadn't searched for Rebecca's "siblings" with the LDS so I went to "familysearch" and stumbled across you and your mention of Mary Jane alias "Jennie". Excited, I started searching other forums and found YOU (and other esearchers whose names I recognized) posting about Mary Jane on genforum, I found your submission to world connect and then your gedcom at ancestry.com!!! Needless to say I'm VERY excited!! I couldn't help but smile as I began to realize that I might now be able to connect with several other researchers that I have been talking to!!! I will happily share anything what I have, though I suspect that I have little if anything new for you! I hope you don't mind if I have a few questions.

1. Is there a will or something that connected Mary Jane Tarlton Moseley to John and Henrietta Tarleton? Because you have John's death between 1790-1802 and Henrietta's AFTER 1802 it appears that you have an estate or a marriage permission or .... something ... Did Henrietta live with Mary Jane for a while?

2. I am amazed that you have so much on John's ancestry. Is "our" John included in the book "Tarleton Records" ?

I will stop for now. I have rambled more than I meant to. I hope to hear back from you as I am very excited by all of the research that you have done and I want you to know that I REALLY do appreciate your efforts. You have really helped me break thru what I had heard about the mention of "our" Ohio co Tarlton's and I feared that I was up against another brick wall. I can't WAIT to hear from you.
Sincereley
