Hi Dave,
I am really confused and I wonder if you can help me out.?
On your website, you have Presley Thompson Moseley marrying Candase
Mitchell in 1856. Their children were: Emma Ara, Geneva Christian,Nannie,
Kirt, and Allie. His second marriage was to Hannah Huffman, and his third
was to Mary Merritt in 1857. How could Presley and Candase have had five
children if they were only married a year? Next question: Your list Mary
and Presley's children as Susan, John, Minnie, Sarah, and Geneva.According
to the 1860 Mclean Co. Ky. census, Candase is listed as living with her
parents Christian and Mazy with her children Susan and John. Susan andJohn
belonged to Mary. What happened to Candase's children and the rest of
Mary's? Why did Candase have another woman's children living with her and
not her own?
I know you probably don't know the answers to my questions, but I
thought I'd ask anyway. I can see a marriage in name only with Candase, but
five kids,too?
Well, any input would be welcome, and thanks.

Hi dtaylor,
I took a trip to the Daviess Co. Library (Owensboro) and did some
checking/ This is what I found, or didn't find.
I did find the marriage license for Candase Mitchell and Presley
Moseley, and it was, October 13, 1856. Married by Fred Tanner at C.A.
Mitchell's home. Witnessed by R.C. Moseley and W. Edwards.
Candase was listed in the 1860 census of Mclean Co. But she wasn't
listed in the 1870, and neither was Presley. In the 1880 census, I found
Emma Moseley, daughter of Candase and Presley living with a family by the
name of Shackleford. It states that she is 14, and an orphan. That means
that her birthdate would have been in 1866, so unless Presley was a
bigamist, he couldn't have married Hannah Huffman or Mary E. Merritt in
1857. That also means that sometime between 1860 and 1880, Candase died,
but I haven't found that information yet. I also haven't found out what
happened to all the other children.
I did find in the Daviess Co. marriages, a Presley Moseley marrying a
Polly Crow, October 21, 1830, then a Presley G. Moseley that married aMrs.
Sarah Wells, March 27, 1853. Do they fit into your tree?
Do you know where Presley was supposed to have gotten remarried? And
where he died? I don't think he was in the 1870 census of Daviess Co.,
either.
I'll keep looking, and keep you posted.
